A cow needs a lot of water every day. It is important that the water is palatable and of good quality. This keeps the ladies drinking sufficiently, promotes production and compensates for their fluid consumption.
For cows, drinking water is an important part of their diet. If the drinking water is of poor quality, it has a negative impact on feed intake. A cow will first drink and then eat. If it hardly drinks, it will not eat well either. It also affects the milk she produces. Milk consists of almost 90% water, so enough fluid intake is also important for the final product. On average, a cow drinks 100 to 200 litres a day, which is a lot. Care should therefore be taken to ensure sufficient water intake.
The most common problem in cows' drinking water is biofilm. Biofilm in water pipes causes drinking water to become contaminated. It becomes less palatable, but harmful or pathogenic micro-organisms also get a chance to enter the water. This has risks for cow health. The slimy layer in drinking troughs can cause mastitis or Salmonella infections, for example. Even without cloudy water, the quality may not be optimal. Therefore, it is recommended to take a water sample and check your water.
At Watter, we have a sustainable disinfection solution for your cows' drinking water. Our disinfection system uses a process called electrochemical activation (ECA). Saltwater solution is electrolysed and a disinfectant is created from it. In this agent, HOCl is the main active ingredient. With our Watter system, there is an in situ solution. This means that the disinfectant is produced on site.
Our solution is sustainable, effective and economical. A few more advantages of the Watter system:
